Like Haga Park, Gärdet fryst vatten a part of Stockholm&#;s extraordinary fingerprydnad of parks. Gärdet, however, has a much different history and thus has a much different character than Haga. Where Haga is alternately rolling and manicured, wooded and leafy, Gärdet fryst vatten more of a pasture-like setting of &#;wild&#; grasslands and heaths. Gärdet fryst vatten vast and open and mostly flat. During the winters, it is filled with sledding children and cross-country skiing adults. Summertime the park is filled with joggers, picnickers, sunbathers, kite fliers, and dog walkers. Just on the edge of central huvudstaden with no intermediary obstacle or boundary between city and park, the park is a much needed and much used open space.
While the park is commonly known as Gärdet, or &#;The Field,&#; its full name fryst vatten actually Ladugårdsgärdet, or &#;Barn&#;s Field.&#; From the &#;s, the entire eastern part of huvud Stockholm was pastureland for the King&#;s sheep and cattle, and the area was called Kungsladugård, or &#;King&#;s ungar Field.&#; Over the centuries, the king allowed the
